NSW All Welsh 2015
We had a very enjoyable show at the NSW All Welsh this year, despite
the heat! It was lovely to catch up with many of our friends from the
Welsh world. Our classes were strong, with many interstate competitors
making the trip this year.
The stand-outs were Bellingara Starbright, who was called in first in
the highly competitive yearling Sec A filly class after a super workout
on the ring. Apparently she thought that was enough for the day, and a
lack of co-operation in her individual show unfortunately saw her drop
to 3rd place. Although still a great result given the quality of the ponies
in the class, and not bad for a yearling who'd never been out until last
week.
The big winner on the day for our stud was Bellingara Twilight, owned
by the Hardy family. She won her 2yo Welsh Mountain Pony Filly class and
went on to claim Reserve Champion Filly! We're really delighted with this
filly's success, she has proved herself several times now at the big shows.

Pony Sales
We have recently farewelled two lovely ponies to new homes. Bellingara
Logan has been sold to the Nugent family of Carinya Pony Stud, in
Moruya NSW. He will be shown in hand and later on used as a child's pony.
Bellingara Tara has been sold to Dean Quinlivan of Penbryn Stud,
Tasmania. She is one of the last Owendale Bart mares, and will be joined
to Dean's imported stallion, Dukeshill Magnum. We are very happy the ponies
have gone to such good homes and wish both new owners all the best with
their Bellingara ponies! May 2015.

National Pony of the Year 2015
National Pony of the Year - very happy with our results!! Our 3 fillies
all placed in very strong classes, but our stallion Shogun was the star
of the show. In the Bamborough Australian Champion of Champions invitation
only event, judged by 3 judges, he was top 4 in theWelsh A heat, top 12
in the semi-finals and top 4 of the entire event which comprised 124 of
Australia's best ponies!!! Shogun was the only Welsh A to make it through
to the very end and we are very proud of this super pony!!

There was stiff competition at this show, together with a UK judge, Jamie

NSW All Welsh 2014
NSW All Welsh 2014 Results
Well we are home from the NSW All Welsh and slowly unpacking and winding
down from the big event. The All Welsh is one of the biggest shows on
our calendar, and the most competitive, with top quality ponies competing
from around Australia. This year was no exception, there were many beautiful
ponies in attendance.
Our results:
- Bellingara Shogun - 1st Welsh A Hunter Stallion
- Bellingara Leilani - 1st Welsh A Broodmare
- Bellingara Logan - 2nd Welsh A Foal
- Bellingara Legally Blonde - 6th Welsh A Yearling Filly (biggest
class of the day)
We also placed 2nd in the Breeder's Group class, in what must have been
the first time a trio of stallion (Shogun), mare (Leilani) and their foal
(Logan) were led by a family trio of dad (Michael), mum (Shelley) and
daughter (myself)!

Congratulations also to the Hardy family with Bellingara Twilight,
who placed 4th in the very competitive Yearling class!
It was great to catch up with old friends, and make new ones also. For
once we had time to watch the Supreme events and even presented the award
for the Supreme Gelding, having sponsored the class.
The Fancy Dress and Fashions on the Field classes were a lot of fun to
watch. The "Dairy Cow" fancy dress was a great laugh, complete
with cow bell and a Merry Milking Maid who sat on her stool and milked
the "udder"! Contestants in the Fashions on the Field class
were asked to show off their paces with much hilarity!
Congratulations to all the competitors who did well at this show, and
took out the broad sashes and floral garlands. Thank you also to the committee
and volunteers for all the hard work that went into running the NSW All
Welsh show.

Southern NSW RPG - Moss Vale 23rd November 2013
Dutch judge Michel Hoeke was clearly favouring ponies with good movement
at this show, and we were very pleased with the results of our pony team.
The standout performer was "Bellingara Shogun" who won the Welsh
Mountain Pony Stallion 4yrs and over class against very strong competition.
Shogun then went on to claim Champion Senior Welsh Mountain Pony winning
over the current Sydney Royal Welsh Supreme winner.
Southern
NSW RPG Foal & Youngstock Show
Goulburn Pony Club Grounds 25th May, 2013
It was a cold morning and long drive, but well worth the
trip to Goulburn for the Southern NSW Foal & Youngstock Show. Attendance
was strong with many breeders and owners out for the day to show off their
youngsters, a great number of which were foals like ours on their very
first outing.
We took three of our Welsh Mountain Pony foals, and were very happy with
how they went. Bellingara Laszlo showed off his springy movement
and went home with Champion Welsh Gelding.
The Welsh A Filly Foal classes were by far the largest of the day, and
our palomino roan filly Bellingara Tinsel Town did well to win
Champion Welsh A Foal against strong competition. Our other filly Bellingara
Sabrina seemed to be feeling a bit flat on the day but nonetheless
picked up a 4th and 5th in some very big filly classes.
Overall the foals were really well behaved for their first ever outing.
The preparation involved really does wonders for their education - washing,
rugging, stabling, clipping, floating etc. Well worth the effort!

Sydney Royal Welsh Results 2013
It was always going to be hard to top winning the Supreme Welsh Exhibit
at last year's Sydney Royal, but we are nonetheless pleased with how our
ponies performed this year, all placing in the top four of their classes.
The standouts were "Bellingara Sienna", who did very well to
win the WMP filly 2yrs & under, which was a strong class, and "Bellingara
Shogun" repeated his success from last year, winning the 3yr old
WMP colt class.
We were also really pleased to see some of our sold Bellingara ponies
competing this year with their new owners. "Bellingara Shiloh",
"Bellingara Lladro" and "Bellingara Tango" - congratulations
to the Brown Family, Karen Findlay and Alison Penhall.

National Pony of the Year 2013
The National Pony of the Year Show is a highlight for pony exhibitors
on the Australian Show Circuit. Held 15-17 March at Sydney International
Equestrian Centre, it caters for a huge variety of pony breeds, both led
and ridden. Of course our special interest is the led Welsh Mountain Pony
classes, where there were a lot of quality ponies in attendance.
Happily, our team had some great results, including our 3yo filly Stardust
who won over the beautiful Imperial Boo Hoo, who was to be the Sydney
Royal Supreme Exhibit a few weeks later.

Show Results - Our Ponies Out & About
It's been a while since I've updated the news page, but we've been busy
competing with the Welshies at the many local Agricultural shows over
the past few months. The weather hasn't been kind, with some very wet
shows (some were even cancelled) and some extremely hot shows - 47 deg
heat at Dapto show (we opted out!). However, we still managed to get out
to a show with our ponies most weekends. Furthermore we're really pleased
to have taken home Champions and Reserves at every show attended!

Southern NSW Pony Classic
This is always a great show, put on by the Southern NSW WPCS RPG and
held at Moss Vale Showgrounds. One of the few shows on the circuit to
have a UK judge for the Welsh ponies, this year it was Andrew Phillips.
It was lovely to have a friendly judge who did a thorough and conscientious
job of assessing all the ponies presented on the day. Our 3yo Welsh Sec
A colt, Bellingara Shogun did well, winning Champion Colt with the judge
commenting he was the straightest moving pony he'd seen all day, and that
he would do well in the UK.
We also took our yearling Welsh Mountain Pony filly, Bellingara Lola.
This was her first time out and she proved to be quite a character! After
being loaded onto our truck she decided it was great fun to duck under
the dividers to give her back a good scratch! Then at the show during
the lunch break she couldn't resist lying down for a midday snooze whilst
tied up beside the truck! Despite having had little practice at being
trotted in hand, she still managed to win Champion White Horse.
All in all, a good day and it was great catching up with friends from
the area.

Final Foal of the Season
Our sixth and final Welsh foal for the season has been born and it's
another filly! That makes five fillies and one colt this year. She is
a delightful black/grey by Snowdon Vale Peter Pan x Dalgangle Snowbell.

It was Sienna's first time out and she behaved very well. A big thank

2012 NSW All Welsh
One of the biggest shows on our calendar and always an event we look
forward to. We ended up taking three ponies and a foal, coming home with
a first, a second and two thirds. The weather on Saturday was scorching
with temperatures in the mid 30's, so we were pleased to be finished with
the junior Welsh classes before lunch time. Saturday night was the BBQ
get-together, and this year it was lovely to have a video presentation
of historic Welsh Ponies and Cobs from Wales. It was also great to catch
up with fellow breeders and clients showing their Bellingara ponies at
the All Welsh for the first time!

August 27th 2012
The days are getting longer, the weather warmer and there are blossoms
on the trees - it's feeling very Spring like at Bellingara Stud and that
means new foals! We've already been blessed
with two Welsh filly foals, a chestnut/grey out of Bellingara Trinket,
born last Sunday and today we had another filly arrive, this time a cremello
out of Osory Clemency. Both foals are by Snowdon
Vale Peter Pan and have inherited their sire's 4 stockings and blaze.

The Shoalhaven
All Breeds Society (SABS) always puts on a great show with an excellent
range of classes. Being locally located for us at Worrigee Equestrian
Common near Nowra, we're very happy to support SABS. This weekend they
held a two day Extravaganza show, with young stock classes on Saturday,
and breeds & hacks on Sunday. We decided to take our yearling colt,
Bellingara Sandpiper, who is growing up very nicely and fortunately hasn't
grown a big fluffy Welsh coat yet!
On Friday night our area was hit by gale force winds, which were still
ripping through the farm and blowing down trees on Saturday morning. After
a sleepless night and no sign of the wind letting up, we decided to stay
home and show on the Sunday instead! A pity since there were some great
prizes on offer for the young stock winners.
By Sunday morning, the weather was back to normal, a nice clear Autumn
day, so off we went. The show was very well attended with many competitors,
obviously the good weather helped! Sandpiper really impressed, and we
couldn't be happier with his results. He won
- 1st Welsh Section A Colt or Stallion
- Champion Led Welsh Section A Pony
- Supreme Led Welsh
Thank you to the society for putting on a great, well run show.

Our Welsh Stallion, Snowdon Vale Peter
Pan has been sold to Laura Gunkel of Caerleon Stud, Victoria. We are
feeling a bit sad to see him go, but know he's going to a lovely new home,
with plenty of Welsh pony mares to keep him entertained! Congratulations
to Laura on buying this beautiful pony stallion.

Bellingara Tango is a yearling Welsh Mountain Pony gelding, sold to Alison
Penhall last year in 2011. Alison kindly sent us some beautiful photos

Pony Gelding 3yrs and under class.

April 16th Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding Classes
Day one for us was the Welsh gelding classes, and it was lovely to catch
up with Alison and her yearling gelding Bellingara Tango. Tango
competed in the Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding 3yrs and under
class, where he placed a creditable 6th against a strong line up of very
much older and more mature ponies.
Bellingara Tango - Yearling Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding
Straight
after Tango's class was the Welsh Mountain Pony Gelding 4yrs and
over in which we had Bellingara Nemo (pictured left) entered.
Getting ready for the class involved a minor catastrophe - my show boots
and cane had been left in the truck! With no time to fetch them, I wore
my Ariat sneakers (good for running at least) and borrowed Alison's cane.
Nemo behaved perfectly for his class, but a freshly grown winter coat
meant he wasn't looking his best. Despite this we were happy when he placed
5th.
After the gelding classes were over, it was time for lunch, then washing
the fillies and colts for their classes the next day.

Wash bays were few and far between at our end of the Falkiner pavilion.

Sydney Royal Grand Parade
with the Ponies
At 4pm we had to take the ponies in the Grand Parade. Our young groom
Shanny (right) was quite excited to dress up and lead Nemo in the parade.
Donning our oversized yellow dust coats, Shannon and I took Nemo and Tina
out for a stroll on the big arena. Some ponies can be a bit overawed by
the atmosphere of the Grand Parade, but Nemo was a perfect gentleman.
As we walked around the arena, it was fun to spot other friends out with
their ponies and wave. Everyone is asked to stop for a minute in the middle
of the parade, so the audience can take photos. This year I decided to
take my own photos!

April 17th Welsh Mountain Pony Mare & Filly Classes
It
was a busy morning with 5 ponies to get ready all at once for their classes.
Leilani (left Photo: Julie Wilson) and
Tina were on first, both in the Welsh Mountain Pony Mare 4yrs
and over class. Unfortunately Tina was a little flat today. Probably
the fire alarms going off all through the night hadn't helped! She didn't
move out to her potential during her workout and placed 6th. Not bad though
for a big class of quality mares.
Leilani on the other hand was sparkling. She walked out very well on
the circle and I had to run flat chat to keep up with her at the trot.
Judge Darrell Owen of Owendale Stud seemed to
like what he saw and placed her first. I was very happy. A blue ribbon
at this show is hard to come by.
Next up was our cute 2yr old filly Eagle Park Stardust in the Welsh
Mountain Pony Filly 2yrs and under class. Stardust is always
fun to show, she loves to show off in the ring! She has an amazing trot
and loads of personality. This was another big class, with a lot of nice
fillies. We ended up 4th. I would like to have placed higher, but was
still buzzing from my win with Leilani.
Time for the judging of Champion Welsh Mountain Pony Mare or
Filly. The line up was tough - all very nice ponies, from well
known studs and professional handlers. After our individual workouts,
we stood the ponies head to tail for the judge to make his final decision.
Once this is made, the winner is not announced, but the pony placing second
to the winner is brought out to challenge for the Reserve Champion. So
when the steward cantered off to the gate to call in the second place
getter, all eyes were watching for which pony would come out. When I saw
Woranora Pin-Up girl come out, I knew Leilani had won Champion Mare. Such
a thrill! Last time we won Champion Mare/Filly at Sydney Royal, it was
with Dalgangle Snowbell, and my Dad was handling her. Now Dad and I were
even!
Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion & Colt Classes
No
time for celebrating just yet though, the Welsh Mountain Pony
Colt 2yrs and under class was coming up. It was Dad's turn to
lead now with Bellingara Shogun. Now Shogun (right) is a pretty laid back
colt, and this mellow temperament doesn't always shout "look at me"
in the show ring. However, when he stepped out on the big Sydney Royal
arena, he arched his neck, pricked his ears and moved out brilliantly.
Just what we wanted, and the judge seems to like him too - first place.
Onto the Champion Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion or Colt
and Shogun backs up his Reserve Champion win from the NSW All Welsh show
last October, with another Reserve Champion against the very well performed
older stallion, Llangollen Top-Notch. This is turning out to be a great
show and we're thrilled with Shogun's win. I think the best is yet to
come for this lovely young colt.
Supreme Welsh Mountain Pony
So now the penultimate title - Supreme Welsh Mountain Pony.
Leilani, winning Champion Mare, is up against the Champion Stallion Top-Notch.
It's not easy for a mare to match the charisma and presence of a stallion,
but we went in and gave it our all. As we stood, waiting for the announcement,
the fanfare played across the stadium and Leilani's name was called! I
walked forward grinning ear to ear, as Leilani was sashed and received
the Angel Park Merlin memorial garland. What an honour.
I walked back to the stables on cloud nine, with Mum and Dad just as
thrilled. There was still the Supreme Welsh Exhibit to be judged later
in the afternoon, but I had no expectations and was so happy with how
we'd done. After lunch exhaustion set in (too little sleep) and I slept
in the tack room while Leilani also rested in her stable.

Supreme Champion Welsh Exhibit
As 4.05pm rolled around, the weather closed in with showers of rain.
We groomed Leilani, added some final touches and set off for the Supreme
Welsh Exhibit. When we lined up in the arena against the Supreme winners
of the Welsh Section B, C and D classes, I noted it was very much a boys
vs. girls event. All stallions with professional male handlers! Leilani
trotted out well, but decided she'd had enough of posing in the rain and
fussed about during her standing presentation. I was disappointed as the
judge quickly ushered us to walk away. Once again we waited for the announcement
of the winner, as the significance of the Nattai Perpetual Trophy
awarded to the Supreme was conveyed. I double checked the number on Leilani's
breastplate as it was read out on the PA. Oh my goodness! She'd gone all
the way through Sydney Royal and taken out the Supreme Champion
Welsh Exhibit!
As the ribbons went around her neck, judge Darrell Owen remarked "Her
name will be immortalised forever now!".

Lolita also competed on the day, winning the Welsh A filly
class.
NSW All Welsh Show October 2011
One of the biggest Welsh shows in Australia, the NSW All Welsh is always
a highlight on our calendar. It's wonderful to catch up with old friends
and watch the country's best Welsh ponies in action. This year we were
very pleased to win Res Champion Sec A Colt with Bellingara
Shogun. This is Shogun's first season of showing. He's a lovely
tempered pony with plenty of bone and stunning movement.
Other successes included winning the Sec A Progeny Group
with a pair of ponies by Trentlyn Benson (Bellinara Leilani
and Bellingara Nemo). Bellingara Nemo also did well in the
Sec A gelding, placing 3rd in a very large class.
We would also like to congratulate the Brown family on winning Reserve
Champion Welsh A Mare with Bellingara Serena. A fabulous
win as the mare classes were very strong. Serena was reserve to the
runner-up Supreme pony of the show.

More
good news from a new owner of one of our recently sold ponies. Cherie
Wallis of South Australia purchased Bellingara Titan (Trentlyn Benson
x Dalgangle Tinsel) earlier in 2011, to be used as a prospective stallion
and harness pony.Cherie reports on Titan's first show -"Titan
won Champion Welsh Pony at the APSB Youngstock Show today and he also
won Best colour exhibit. Mick and I are really happy with him he is
just a gem to have around."
It's wonderful to see the ponies we've bred doing so well for their
new owners. Congratulations to Cherie and Mick.

Shoalhaven All Breeds Youngstock 15/5/2011
This was a lovely show with beautiful grounds at Worrigee Equestrian
Common. The weather was fantastic and it was nice not to have to travel
too far. We showed two Welsh fillies - Bellingara Lolita who
won her class and went on to be Champion Welsh Yearling.
The other filly we took was Bellingara Tina who also won her
class, going on to be awarded Res Champion Welsh 3yo.

National Pony of the Year 2011
We had a successful show at the National Pony of the Year, held at
the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on April 9th. Bellingara
Stud entered two ponies, and both won their classes. Eagle Park Stardust
won the Welsh Sec A Yearling Filly class, which was a strong class of
beautiful fillies, so a rewarding win. Also, Osory Clemency won the
Welsh Sec A Broodmare class - not bad considering her foal had only
been weaned a week before! Photos of Stardust and Clemency are on the
Horse
Deals Gallery.
We were also happy to see Bellingara Serena, recently sold to the Brown
family, competing at the National Pony of the Year. Serena won third
place in the Welsh Mountain Pony Filly.
Congratulations Bellingara Taylor Made
Lisa and Chris Finnis of Victoria have been doing well showing their
yearling colt, Bellingara Taylor Made (Weston Park Taylobont x Bellingara
Tigerlilly). Lisa reports Taylor won two Reserve Championships at Cohuna
Show last weekend! Well done to Chris and Lisa on your success and presenting
him so beautifully.

New Foal
Congratulations to Jane Barry on the arrival of her gorgeous buckskin
colt "Palmerston Rupert", born 29th Dec 2010. He is sired
by our own Snowdon Vale Peter Pan.
National Capital Horse Show November 2009
Our new stallion Snowdon Vale Pater Pan made his debut at
the National Capital Horse Show, and we were very pleased when he was
awarded Champion Sec A. It was a very successful show with Bellingara
Trinket also winning Reserve Champion Sec A.
2009 Shows
Bellingara Sinatra has had a very successful start to the 2009 show
season. At Bowral Show he won the ridden Sec A mare/gelding, and went
on to win the same class at Albion Park Show as well as winning the
led Sec A gelding. These were big classes and we're very proud of Sinatra's
success.
Our fillies have also been going well. Bellingara Tina won the led
Sec A filly class at Bowral Show. Bellingara Trinket won Reserve Champion
led Sec A Welsh at both Bowral and Albion Park Shows.
NSW All Welsh Show 2008
Bellingara Stud had a very good show this year. Bellingara
Showgirl, Osory Clemency and
Dalgangle Tinsel all placed second in their
highly competitive mare classes. It was Bellingara Sinatra's
first major show under saddle and he performed admirably with his lovely
rider Katie Kelly, coming 4th in the Preliminary dressage and placing
in the ridden Sec A gelding as well as in the led Welsh Hunter. To top
off the show, our gorgeous foal Bellingara Troubadour
(Trentlyn Benson x Dalgangle Tinsel) won the Sec A foal class and
went on to be awarded BEST FOAL!

Pony Dressage with Bellingara Sinatra
Bellingara Sinatra had his first outing under saddle at the Shoalhaven
Dressage Club on April 20th. Katie Kelly did a lovely job riding him,
winning both his tests with a top score of 76.5%.
Sydney Royal 2008
We had quite a successful show this year at Sydney Royal. Osory Clemency
won the Welsh Mountain Pony Mare 4 years and over and also went on to
win Reserve Champion Mare/Filly. Bellingara Showgirl also won the three
year old Welsh Mountain Pony Filly class. Bellingara Trinket did well
for third place in the strong 2yo and under filly class.
Vale Owendale Bart (1979-2007)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Owendale Bart
on September 15th, 2007. Bart was on lease to us from Osory stud for
the last three years. During this time we grew quite attached to him
and will miss him greatly. His death was sudden and unexpected, as he
had been in excellent health and condition.
Owendale Bart was a legendary stallion, sired by Coed Coch Norman
(imp) who was a Royal Welsh Show Champion, and out of the mare
Valley Lake Breeze (imp) who was a Royal Welsh Show Supreme
Champion herself. Bart won multiple Champion and Supreme Champion awards
throughout the Eastern States of Australia.
Not only was Bart an outstanding show winner himself, but also a sire
of champions. Some notable examples are Osory Destiny (Champion
Welsh Mountain Stallion/Colt Sydney Royal 1999 and Supreme Champion
Welsh Mountain Pony 2000 NSW All Welsh), Barn Hill Fletcher
(Champion Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion Brisbane Royal 2007, Champion
Sec A stallion Qld All Welsh 2006, WP&CS Sire-Rating Winner Qld
2007) and Madison Park Knock Out (Multi winner at Royal and
All Welsh shows in NSW and Vic).
Bart's legacy is carried on through his grandsons, Angel Park Merlin
and Osory Tallyho who are destined to be the sires of
the future with outstanding show performances, achieving the highest
accolades at the prestigious Sydney Royal and NSW All Welsh Shows.
Goodbye Bart, old man. Rest in peace.
